Wow! I was thinking, “he’s gone so far” (and you have!!), but didn’t realize just how long the trail is. I picture everything north on VA all scrunched up, like it wouldn’t take but a week or two to hike through the north 😉 Guess that shows I’m a southerner at heart 😁
It’s pretty staggering sometimes. I got a pep talk from the owner of the first hostel I stayed at. He drew a map of the trail on a piece of paper and where most people (over 50%) would quit. It was 1/11th of the trail, just after the Smokies. One quarter of the trail is in Viginia alone. Thankfully the people in VA are wonderful.
